The company was established in June 1953 with the name Manufacturas Mecânicas Flexus, Lda., joint-stock company, dedicated to the accessories and frames for parasols production. It had a covered space of 900 m2 where about 50 people worked. In 1978, in consequence of its activities enlargement, began with the steel tube with seam production activity, increasing its fixtures area for 10 960 m2. With the enlargement of its activity, Flexus started to reckon with a strips (shear) roller-cutting machine and 3-tube continuous production equipment's. Therefore, besides producing tube for the parasols frames, it started producing tube for commercialisation. In 1984/85, with the purpose of developing the productive capacity on the tube production, the company enlarged its fixtures, building a new pavilion with an area of 2150 m2 proceeding to the purchase of a new equipment of raw material (shear) longitudinal cutting and another tube production equipment. In 1990, started the formatted plate production, obtaining for the effect one crosscut plate equipment. At this time, increased once more the industrial area with the building of a new pavilion of 2030 m2 and obtained a new tube production equipment. By this way, in 1996, the company reckoned with a total area of 31028 m2 where about 245 employees worked. Actually and as a result of an investment of one billion escudos, yet in progress, the company increased its covered area to 7000 m2, with the building of a new pavilion. This investment contributed to the increase of its productive capacity with the acquisition of a new longitudinal cutting machine and a new tube production machine, modernising so its laboratory and the administrative part. Like this, Flexus can nowadays offer a more widened range of products/services to its clients trying always, with these whether productive or commercial capacity increases, to answer to all the clients' demands.
Flexus is a company that actually counts on the collaboration of about 188 people and presented an invoicing volume of 18.046.074 EUROS in 2000, 17.051.681 EUROS in 2001 and 16.221.719 EUROS in 2002. It is a company that has, also, invested on the modernisation of its productive structures, favouring the acquisition of flexible and versatile technologies, so as to increase the productivity levels. As a certified company according to the quality norm ISO 9002 in the structural and general tubes sector, Flexus reached in October of 2003 another important objective by passing to the new norm ISO 9001:2000 thus being able to continue assuring quality service to its clients as well as suppliers and other entities. The company retains a subsidiary in Spain, the Flexus Ibérica, which allows having a private commercial structure in this country. Flexus Ibérica is also, since 1998, certified according to the rule UNE-ISO 9002.
